Privacy Policy
degr° has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking — on your computer or on this site. It is free, so there is no payment information either. The only data that ever leaves your machine is what's needed to fetch the weather.
Your location. degr° uses a location only to request local weather. When you install it, degr° asks once where you are: it guesses a city from your internet connection (via ipwho.is) and you either confirm it or type a different one. That city's coordinates are stored on your own computer. You can instead let your system's location services provide it (macOS Core Location or Windows Location Services, only with permission), or change the city at any time in degr° settings. Whichever way, only coordinates are used, and only to ask for the weather.
Third-party services, all over HTTPS. Weather comes from MET Norway (api.met.no), with the US National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) as a backup for US locations. If you type a city, that city name is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to look up its coordinates. degr° settings also check a small version file on degr.app so we can tell you when a new release is out — no identifying information is sent. None of these requests include anything about you beyond the coordinates or city name needed to answer them.
How often degr° asks. degr° honours the caching rules published by MET Norway: it re-uses the last answer until the weather service says it has expired, and it identifies itself with a contact address so they can reach us. In practice that means roughly one request every half hour while the screensaver is running, no matter how many displays you have.
